Geometrocity

Grade 4 students will take on the exciting role of city architects as they design and build their very own city, a city made of math! Working in collaborative teams, each group will be assigned a different district of Geometrocity, such as Downtown, City Hall, Suburbs, Industrial Park, Park District, or Entertainment, and will design their section from the ground up using the geometric concepts they have been learning.  Throughout the project, students will plan their districts using shapes, lines, angles, and symmetry, follow precise road-connection rules so their section fits seamlessly with their classmates' sections, and build 3D structures from recyclable materials to bring their city to life. Blending Mathematics, Visual Arts, English, and Social Studies, this hands-on journey nurtures creativity, spatial reasoning, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. To conclude the project, each group will pitch their finished section to the "City Council," explaining their design choices and showcasing the geometry concepts they used. Through this project, students will develop creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, mathematical reasoning, and confident communication skills, while discovering how geometry shapes the world around them in a practical and engaging way.
